I've been a singer for as long as I can remember, and over the past few years I've fallen in love with jazz. More than any other genre, it represents opportunity – the opportunity to express yourself, to show your talent, to amaze people by opening your soul to them through song. As a singer, you're an open book onstage.
To me, the Jazzonian Youth Band also represented opportunity. As Iala said, there aren't many outlets for young Floridian jazz musicians, which is why I was excited to be a part of this band.
Not only did I get the chance to perform and expand my skills, but I met some of the most talented directors and young performers in South Florida. It was really amazing to get to work with such talented musicians, and I'm extremely proud of the work we did in our short time together.
We really meshed as a group while performing and practicing. Our perseverance, practice, drive, and talent took us far, and I'm honored to be a part of this band.
I would love to perform with the Jazzonian band in the future and keep bringing jazz to a new generation. I will always cherish the experience, friends, and most importantly, the opportunity that Jazzonian gave me as I move forward in my musical career.
