"I caught the rhythm talk with Sammy F. He walked everybody through his early days til today. Running off to New York; Meeting Herbie Mann while hustling LPs at Sam Goodys Getting hired by Herbie Mann while hustling LPs at Sam Goodys Cannonball telling him he'd be fired if he ever asked, "Did I play OK?" Auditioning for Miles. Describing how straight ahead doesn't always work with conga grooves, you got a weave it in. How we expected the use of percussion to fade but has seen it gain equal footing with the kit. This was priceless stuff. I hope you taped it. BTW, I listened to his latest CD on the way to the Summit. The guy's still doing it. Gimme some more Summit." Bill French
