Celebrating Charlie Parker Festival

Once again Jazzonian proudly presents the 3rd Annual Celebrating Charlie Parker Festival, Monday, August 25th, 7 PM, at the Bienes Center for the Arts at St. Thomas Aquinas, 2801 SW 12th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312. For information, call 305-298-2380

FREE admissiion; donations will be encouraged to benefit Jazzonian Kids Club, Jazzonian Youth Scholarship Fund, and community initiatives: taking Jazz where there is none!

From very humble beginnings growing up in Kansas City, young Charlie Parker made a personal choice to become exceptional at playing the saxophone. Thus, with hard work and determination, Charlie Parker became the greatest, as well as setting the bar high for generations to come.

The JAZZONIAN Youth Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to promising young high school Jazz musicians with the goal of inspiring individuals to become high achievers, developing future leaders in the community, empowering the next generation of Jazz musicians, and nurturing young fans of this artform.

MISSION:
The mission of the South Florida Jazz Summit is to bring the Jazz industry together; committed to empowering Jazz; thereby, serving as a cultural bridge--bringing people together for this higher purpose of preserving, advancing and celebrating this precious American artform that we love called Jazz; providing networking and educational opportunity; helping to energize the local Jazz scene; bringing awareness to area Jazz institutions and organizations; showcasing the best emerging young Jazz talent from great area schools, as well as helping to empower South Florida as a world class destination for live Jazz.

The South Florida Jazz Summit is a fundraising event produced annually by the Jazz Museum of Florida, Inc (dba Jazzonian), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All proceeds from this event go to the Jazzonian Young Jazz Leaders Scholarship initiative and community outreach jazz education programs under the aegis of the Jazz Museum of Florida, Inc.

Excellence in Jazz Education
Jazzonian is very pleased to announce its 2011 Excellence in Jazz Education Award. This year's recipient is Mr. Christopher Dorsey, Band Director of the Jazz Orchestra at Dillard Center for the Arts.

As part of our commitment to inspire, educate, and bring people together, JAZZONIAN is available as a traveling exhibit to local community schools, institutions and organizations seeking to create more awareness of Jazz while celebrating the rich history of this unique American art form.
