Trombonist Marcus L. Elliott is a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey. He graduated from Norfolk State University (NSU), earning a B.S. in Music Education with an emphasis in instrumental music. Mr. Elliott also received an M.A in Music Performance and Composition at New York University with in emphasis in Jazz Studies.
While at NSU, he participated in the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Program; Spartan Legion Marching Band, NSU Jazz Band, NSU Pep Band, NSU Orchestra, NSU Brass Quintet and Wind Ensemble. Marcus Elliott graduated Cum Laude at NSU and was chosen Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities.
In the graduate program at NYU, Mr. Elliott recorded with the NYU Jazz Orchestrate under the direction of Frank Foster, Tom Boras and Michael Abene. Marcus studied trombone with such well-known Jazz artists as Conrad Herwig, Tim Neuman, and Slide Hampton. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a citation for Outstanding Musicianship from the International association of jazz education.
He led several jazz combos that performed throughout New York City. Marcus performed with Blue Magic, Roy Ayers, Ralph Peterson, Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship choir to name a few. Also, Marcus Elliott taught music in Norfolk Public Schools and Miami Dade school systems. Now he is working as a freelance musician in the south Florida area.
