Loukrisha Louissaint inspires exceptional leadership in Jazz
(Miami-FL 10-11-2012) ONE person can make a difference! ONE person can set things in motion and INSPIRE many! In this case, it was Loukrisha Louissaint, saxophonist with the Miami Edison Sr High School Red Raiders band. Please read and be inspired:
"Hello, my name is Loukrisha and i am a student of Miami Edison Senior High School who is a junior. I participate in the school's marching band playing the saxophone, i stumbled over this site as i was looking over M.O.C.A's north Miami website because of their jazz festival."
Miami Edison Sr High School Band Director, Mr. Wilfred Barry - Loukrisha Louissaint, and Founder/President of Jazzonian Bobby Ramirez.
"I saw Bobby Ramirez of Pan Con Bistec and this site of jazz wealth. So it has made me think our marching band is made of great, passionate and ambitious student instrumentalists that just crank out songs from our heart, the field and the stands, but unfortunately our instruments are not up to par with makeshift parts trying to hold the instruments together."
"For example, we are missing screws so we add paper on the necks of the saxophones to keep it in place. There are rubber bands around the keys of the saxophones to keep the broken keys from falling apart, but still forging forward to play."
"There are notes on the instruments of the saxophones and the clarinets because it is either broken or the pads are forced deep within the holes. There are dents within the trumpets which is forcing the keys to not play. There are needs for new mouthpiece and altogether new instruments since this generation of instrumentalists are reusing the past instrumentalists' instruments."
"Our school does not have the funds to replace any instruments or even repairs and my band director is stretched thin with money to fix them. My dedicated section leader a senior saxophonist, Herarson D., has even put in hundreds of dollar to the repairs of the saxophones which is still not enough."
"We are in need of so many band equipment and band materials that seems too numerous to count but the pride of the marching Red Raiders is greater that we are still playing and still students come in droves to practice songs, work on music and come united to put together an amazing show with laughter and jokes of course in the band room."
"I know it is not a guarantee, but i am asking for at least the consideration of your aide for the Miami Edison's Marching Red Raiders band or whatever you have in mind for us to talk and think about for present and future hopes and plans."
Sincerely, Loukrisha a red raider marching saxophonist! :)
